Ca. 1870. A pair of rosewood chairs with gilded highlights and hand painted porcelain plaques on crest depicting a minstrel and a recumbent woman. Carved in the back of one of the crests are the initials “T. R. ” and “1906”. The arms terminate in carved sphynx formed heads. Ends in carved claw feet. 40 1/2″ high x 25″ wide 24″ deep. 14″ seat height. Provenance: A Newport, Rhode Island collection. Good condition. Newly upholstered. Gilded highlights have been redone. A minor carved decoration has been replaced. There is a slice in one of the back legs.
