19th C. (A) rare weight driven telegraph register made by Charles Williams Jr. Signed C. Williams, Boston, Mass. 7″ high x 13″ wide x 5″ deep. Brass components with oak base. (B) A telegraph key marked Japan, 1″ high x 5″ wide x 2 1/2″ deep. (C) A telegraph set by J. H. Bunwell & Co, NY. Brass mounted on an oak base. 5″ high x 10 1/2″ wide x 6 1/2″ deep. Comes with two booklets: Charles Wilson, Thomas Watson and Alexander Graham Bell, one is “High Lights of Boston”, January 1920, the other is “Mr. Bell Invents the Telephone” by Katherine Shippen 1952. Williams was an early and significant telegraph instrument maker in the 1850’s through 1870’s, from Boston. He employed Thomas Watson who was known for Alexander Graham Bell’s first conversation on a telephone: “Watson, come here I want to see you. ” March, 10 1876. He supplied parts to Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell. Good condition. Small chip on oak base of telegraph set.
