Chinese Altar Cloth. 18th century. A rare Qing Dynasty yellow silk and intricately embroidered cloth relating to Taoist events. It was possibly used for Imperial family use. Images of yin-yang, flaming pearls, elephant, horses, fish, seated figures and more. According to a translation of the traditional Chinese characters: the altar cloth was made in Suzhou by Sa Zai for Emperor Qianlong. 35 1/2″ high by 108″ wide. Shows one area of separation of silk ribbon at base shows tears, silk shows some staining.
