19th C. Northwest coast, probably Alaska. Geometric design. Collected by Newton Henry Chittenden, second half of 19th century. Sight size 10 1/2″ long x 3″ wide. Newton Henry Chittenden was an explorer, author, and Civil War veteran serving in the 4th Wisconsin cavalry as a captain. After the war he was commissioned by the government of British Columbia to explore the Queen Charlotte Islands. Condition consistent with age and use.
