19th century. Hand-painted cast iron novelty clock. Figural design with eagle and two crossed American flags, a US Army soldier and a US sailor in 1898 uniforms with rifles in hand. Clock is a 30-hour lever escapement movement. Supported on a ‘C’ scroll and grape motif base. 11″ high x 10″ wide x 2 1/4″ deep. Most of the polychrome paint is original with some retouching. Paper dial shows foxing. Not working. Provenance: From the estate of Alan Gaines of A & A Gaines Antiques, Newport, Rhode Island.
